Aryan Kaul
Hi, I’m Aryan Kaul, studying Computer Science at Columbia University in New York City.
I work in the Computer-Enabled Abilities Laboratory (CEAL), led by Prof. Brian A. Smith, and am part of the broader Data, Agents & Processes Lab (DAPLab) community.
I’ve worked with Prof. Lydia Chilton and the Computational Design Lab on human-centered tools for productivity and creativity support. I’ve also worked with Prof. Zhuo Zhang on using vision-language models to help identify potentially harmful applications.
I earned my B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland. At Maryland, I was a TA for CMSC 250, Discrete Structures, with Prof. Justin Wyss-Gallifent. I also gave a talk in the Department of Mathematics on fixed-point theorems and continuity, mentored by Prof. Vlassis Mastrantonis.
Before Columbia, I was a software engineer at Amazon, where I worked on improving the digital reading experience on Kindle. I also spent a summer at Dell, where I consolidated cross-program reporting and built real-time dashboards for executives.
I’m grateful to the professors, mentors, and managers who believed in me early, and helped make this path possible through their recommendations including Justin Wyss-Gallifent, Vlassis Mastrantonis, Michael Hicks, James Haager, and Gregor Kaplan.
